Video: Golden Retriever Reacts to New Dog Research Being Read Out on TV

Living with a dog means constantly wondering what’s going on inside their head. Are they happy, confused, or secretly judging your life choices? Their dramatic sighs and perfectly timed side-eyes don’t exactly help the case. A hilarious new video seems to answer that question when a Golden Retriever watches a news report claiming dogs actually judge us.

Golden Retriever watches the news where they talk about research on dogs

The short video, uploaded by @aguyandagoldenn, begins with a news anchor delivering a headline that instantly grabs attention. Onscreen text reads, “New research has found that dogs do judge us,” as the reporter calmly explains the findings.

The camera then pans away from the TV, and the video’s focus moves over to the couch, where a Golden Retriever sits beside his owner, watching the broadcast. The timing could not be better.

As the statement about dogs judging humans plays in the background, the Retriever slowly turns his head and fixes his owner with what can only be described as a skeptical look. His eyes narrow slightly. His mouth hangs just open enough to show a hint of teeth. It is the kind of expression that says, “Who, me?,” without a single bark.

At the same time, text appears over the dog’s face reading, “She lyin’,” suggesting the pup strongly disagrees with the research. The humor works because his expression seems to contradict the message.

If anything, his side-eye appears to confirm the very claim being made on television. What’s more, the caption beneath the video reads, “Caught in the action,” as if the Retriever has just been exposed.

So, do dogs actually judge us? Research suggests dogs are highly skilled at reading human emotions, tone of voice, and facial expressions. Studies have shown they can distinguish between kind and unkind behavior, and may even prefer people who treat others well.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re sitting there critiquing your decisions, but it does mean they notice more than you think. And if your dog gives you a suspicious look while you grab another snack, well, you might want to take the hint.
