A devoted Shiba Inu has melted hearts online after a video showed him performing what appear to be daily “wellness checks” on his owner whenever they sleep a little too long. The touching clip comes from the Instagram account @katsu_ben_, run by Katsu and his owner, Ben, and boasts over 11.7K followers.
Dog apparently gets worried whenever owner oversleeps
The video by @katsu_ben_ features Katsu the Shiba Inu, who won the SGCC 2021 TikTok cosplay competition. The text overlay reads: “My dog checking on me whenever I oversleep… making sure I am okay.” The footage shows the dog quietly approaching his owner, who is still lying in bed. Katsu moves carefully and attentively. His expression looks almost concerned, as if confirming that everything is fine.
The caption provides deeper context: “When I sleep for too long… he gets worried. I have already recovered but Katsu still gets worried. When I am unwell he will stay by my side to keep watch.” According to the owner, the Shiba Inu developed this behavior during a time when he had a stroke. Now, even after recovery, he continues to monitor longer-than-usual sleep as if he refuses to let his guard down.
The comment section quickly filled with admiration. One user wrote, “What a sweet, considerate little heart stealer. His color is beautiful by the way, like a red bean bun.” Another added, “He loves u so much only dogs can.” A third noted, “That’s what loyalty from a dog looks like! Unlike most humans who don’t know or don’t care.” And another said, “So Sweet.”
Katsu’s morning check-ins show more than love; they show awareness. Dogs can sense changes in routine, health, and energy. In this case, Katsu seems to remember when his owner was unwell and doesn’t ignore similar signs. Even though his owner says they have recovered, the dog still watches closely when they sleep longer than usual.
