Lumi has spent a long time just watching the new kitten from across the living room rug. Living in a big New York apartment means everyone has to get along eventually, but this specific introduction took a lot of patience. Jackie, their owner at @littlebearlumi, has been documenting the whole process of getting her Samoyed used to a tiny feline flatmate. In a new video, the dog is seen sleeping on the edge of his bed while the cat, Piper, is just a few feet away. It is a big deal because they usually keep a much wider gap between them.
Dog and cat sleep next to each other in adorable video
The tension is real when Piper finally decides to make a move. She actually hops onto the same bed where the dog is already resting. Lumi just stays there. He gives her a quick sniff but doesn’t freak out. “They’ve never slept this close together before,” the text in the video says. It is a huge milestone for the pair. Piper gets even closer until they are basically touching.
The pet mom is filming the whole thing and can barely keep it together. She says she might start crying if they actually cuddle. In the video, the cat and dog are seen sleeping right against each other by the end. Piper is curled up against Lumi’s belly, and her tail is swishing like she’s totally comfortable. “Lumi and Piper cuddled all by themselves,” Jackie wrote in the caption. She is deservedly proud because of how much work went into making sure they felt safe with one another.
Over 13,000 people have liked the post so far. One person commented that the last shot needs to be framed on a wall immediately. Another viewer mentioned how their own senior cat won’t warm up to their pet, so this feels like a total win.
It’s just the sweetest sight seeing a massive white cloud of a dog acting as a pillow for a tiny kitten. They are probably going to be inseparable from now on. Once a kitten finds a warm spot like that, they usually don’t give it up.
