Video: Dog Positions Himself Between Door & Family to Protect Them

A dog named Jax takes the job to protect his family seriously, and this sweet Instagram video from @thebigdobermanjax is proof. The Doberman in the video positions himself between the entrance and his family, as if he has been hired for the job, becoming the household protector. Safe to say, no intruder can get through before dealing with Jax.

Dog takes his job as a protector seriously when strangers knock on the door

In the video, the dog hears someone outside and becomes fully alert, thinking it is time to protect his family as the on-screen caption reads, “Current man of the house making sure his girls are safe” — and Jax wastes no time living up to the expectations.

As he comes up the stairs, his owner checks in with him, asking, “What is it, Jaxie? Are you on guard? Are you protecting us?” Meanwhile, Jax stays alert with his ears up, clearly focused on whatever noise caught his attention. Once he reaches the owner, she tries to guess the source, asking, “Was it the Amazon delivery man?”. But Jax looks down toward the front of the house and barks again, as if to warn whoever is at the door.

The owner reassures him while praising the effort and telling her toddler, “We got a good puppy, don’t we? It’s okay now.”

Then the owner and the baby follow Jax downstairs, with the dog taking up position near the front door, standing squarely between the door and the people behind him. The owner says, “I don’t see anything,” then spots the package outside and realizes it’s the “Amazon delivery person.” She concludes the video with “Good boy, Jax. He was just protecting us.”

In the caption, the owner explains this is not a one-time thing. She writes, “Our sweet boy stepping up to protection mode while Dad is working. He is always positioning himself between us and the door. We’re a lucky family to have him.”

Dogs often see doors as main boundaries, and protective breeds like a Doberman would jump in to protect their family first and foremost — and that is what makes this video so heartwarming.
