Blind & Deaf Dog Searches for Mom in the House by Doing This

Waking up and realizing your mom isn’t in her usual spot on the bed is a bit confusing when you can’t see or hear where she went. Because she was sleeping in the living room, Bumper woke up to a very empty room. This pup is blind and deaf, so he has to put his nose to work to figure out the situation. Over at @bumpertheluckdragon, this video shows this double merle dog sleepily wandering through the house, hoping to find his person — his mom.

Dog sniffs around the house hoping to find mom

In the video, the pup comes out of the bedroom looking a bit lost. But he starts checking for her scent immediately. He goes past the TV stand. He lifts his nose high into the air, trying to catch a whiff of her. Then he heads into the kitchen.

He goes out of frame, beyond the fridge, and turns back around. One viewer joked that he might have been looking for breakfast. But he didn’t even try to counter surf. This dog just wanted his mom. But it’s double the work to find someone without any sound or sight.

Then he wanders back into the living room. His mom is actually on the floor filming the whole thing. He almost walks right past her. But she reaches out and pets him. He stops in his tracks. And then he turns around instantly.

His mom just laughs and says, “Hi.” One commenter said her smell is basically home to him. And that really shows here. He just needed to know she hadn’t left the house.

The clip ends with a selfie of the two of them. Bumper is tucked in right next to her, happy to go back to sleep once he knows she is there. The text on the screen says, “Found me.” Then he gets some good neck scratches. Over 6,000 people liked the post because it is just pure joy. All seems to be well now that he found her.

Bumper is usually the one taking his “service human” on adventures, but this morning, he just needed a cuddle. His genetics often come with these sensory challenges, so he has learned to be very clever with his other senses. One fan said it’s a “beautiful thing to be found.” And the video of this dog finding his mom is just that poetic.
