Golden Retriever Meets Grandma’s Dog After 6 Months & This Is What Happens

If you’ve ever wondered whether dogs miss each other the way humans do, the internet has your answer. Their joy doesn’t hide, and neither does their excitement. When a familiar face returns, dogs tend to react with their whole bodies. That’s exactly what happens in a video showing a Golden Retriever reuniting with grandma’s dog after six months apart.

Golden Retriever is way too thrilled to reunite with grandma’s dog

Instagram user @missmochithegolden recently shared a video capturing the reunion of two Golden Retrievers who hadn’t seen each other in six months. The clip opens with Mochi, a young Golden Retriever, sitting inside near a glass window as another Golden Retriever, her grandma’s dog, approaches from outside. Text over the video explains the moment: “my puppy being reunited with my parents dog after six months.”

At first, the dogs pause, staring at one another through the glass. There’s a brief moment of curiosity, as if they’re confirming what they’re seeing. Then recognition sets in. Both dogs’ tails begin wagging rapidly, their bodies shifting with excitement as they move closer to the door. Mochi leans forward, clearly eager, while her longtime playmate mirrors the same enthusiasm from the other side.

As the seconds pass, the excitement only grows. Their tails wag faster, and their posture becomes more animated, suggesting they’re ready to pick up exactly where they left off.

But do dogs actually remember other dogs after long periods of separation? According to animal behavior experts, the answer is yes, though not necessarily in the same way humans remember faces. Dogs rely heavily on scent, body language, and context. Even after months apart, a familiar smell or movement pattern can instantly trigger recognition.

Dogs also form associative memories. If another dog was linked with positive experiences like playtime, comfort, or companionship, that emotional memory can remain intact for months or even years. That’s why reunions often appear so joyful and immediate, even after extended time apart.
