Video: Puppy Being Sneaky in Her ‘Land Shark’ Phase Amuses Everyone

Ontario-based Georgia isn’t exactly what comes to mind when you picture a typical Golden Retriever, mostly because she sports a unique set of spots that match her massive personality. Her owners recently shared a video on their page, @georgiawiththespots, that perfectly captures the nutty “land shark” era every new pet parent fears. In the clip, Georgia is seen peaking over the edge of the sofa like a tiny, furry predator. She comes across as a good girl in her other posts. But for now, this puppy is more interested in finding the right moment to pounce on some unsuspecting ankles.

You could mistake the footage for a scene straight out of a thriller. Specifically because it uses the iconic “Jaws” theme song to set the mood. Georgia’s mom is relaxing on the couch with her legs stretched out, occasionally lifting a foot to dodge a potential strike. Behind the backrest, Georgia’s head pops up in different spots, mimicking a game of whack-a-mole.

As the in-video text explains, “POV: You’re in the land shark phase,” which basically means your puppy has temporarily transformed into a “tiny velociraptor with razor teeth.” Interestingly, this behavior is a totally normal, albeit painful, way for young dogs to explore their world.

A puppy often has high energy, and when they get overtired, the “off switch” simply disappears. One viewer of the video perfectly described the scene as Georgia “eyeing her target and ready to engage.” To cope with the chaos, Georgia’s owners rely on enforced naps and a steady rotation of frozen chews. Her mom admits they spend most of their evenings in “survival mode,” wearing thick socks to protect themselves from those needle-sharp teeth.

Many other owners in the comments are right there in the trenches with them. One fan mentioned their pup turns on “shark mode” every night at 8 p.m., while another noted they are still dealing with it at 18 months old. When mom saw that, she jokingly asked if that meant she was “screwed” for the long haul. The cover photo for the reel — featuring Georgia in a literal shark costume — is the cherry on top. Ultimately, everyone knows this phase is just a passing chapter in a long life of cuddles.
