Video: Golden Retriever Is Angry at Humans but Can’t Resist Doing This

Kal the Golden Retriever is angry in a hilarious video, but he also wants to know if anyone noticed. Instagram user @thegoldenkal posted the video showing the pup sitting in the back seat of a car, looking like he is practicing his best “I’m not speaking to you” face. He stares straight ahead. Seconds later, he does the smallest, gentlest sideways glance toward his owners, and then immediately snaps back to staring forward as if nothing happened.

Golden Retriever sneaks a peek at owners even when angry in cute video

The video’s onscreen caption explains the angry Golden Retriever’s sentiments: “POV: you’re mad at your humans, but you have to check if they are watching.” Meanwhile, the caption doubles down on Kal’s intentions, stating, “Have to make sure they know.”

Kal’s little “sneak-a-peek” routine is as funny as it is relatable. A lot of dogs do a version of this when they feel angry, annoyed, left out, or simply want attention. They turn away to make a point, but they would still “check in” to see if their person is reacting.

Dogs pay close attention to our faces and voices, and many learn that dramatic body language can get a response, especially from owners who can’t resist laughing or talking to them. Hence, what Kal did was normal to know whether his owners are paying attention to him.

Viewers recognized and loved the angry Golden Retriever’s attitude in the video. One commenter wrote, “Exactly… Making sure those tantrums aren’t going waste,” while another gushed, “Awww so cute!” And one praised Kal with, “Smart baby!”

The best part is how controlled Kal’s performance is: he doesn’t huff, bark, or throw a fit. Instead, he just sits there and protests silently, all with a status check: Are they watching? Did it land? Did they receive the message? And if Kal’s goal was to make his humans feel slightly guilty and extremely entertained at the same time, this video says his side-eye was successful.
