An adorable video proves that Waso the Golden Retriever understands two important things about life: pizza smells amazing, and toys have value. However, his only problem is that his owner doesn’t agree on the exchange rate. Instagram user @goldenwaso shared a video featuring the Golden Retriever, and his best attempt at pulling off what appears to be a very serious negotiation.

The video opens with him standing near his owner, staring at the pizza. His plush toy sits right at his feet, indicating that he negotiated for the pizza using the toy, ready for what he thinks is a simple trade. His owner lays down the rules right away, telling him, “Waso, just ’cuz I have pizza, and just ’cuz you got me a toy, doesn’t mean I’m gonna give you the pizza for the toy.”
Waso responds with a coy pause and a perfect side-eye that makes it look like he’s trying to appease his owner.
Not giving up, he sniffs around, picks up the toy, and presents it again — politely, persistently, and with the confidence of someone who believes he brought a solid deal to the table. There’s a beat of silence as he drops the toy and waits for the answer. Finally, while the Golden Retriever doesn’t get the slice, the video ends with the owner admitting they “ended up caving” and giving him turkey treats instead.
Viewers definitely took Waso’s side. One commenter jokingly called him “The negotiator,” while another wrote, “Honestly… that’s a very fair trade.” A third viewer joked, “But the retriever did his job!”
Waso’s negotiation actually makes sense. Many dogs learn that bringing a toy earns them praise or a reward; so when a prize like pizza appears, they employ their best strategy. Besides, carrying their favorite things over to their owner is basically a love language for Goldens.
Still, it’s a good thing Waso’s owner held the line on pizza. People food can come with ingredients dogs shouldn’t eat, no matter how strong the side-eye gets.
