Labradors Want to Sit by the Fireside but Aren’t Willing to Share Space

As the temperatures dip, humans aren’t the only ones negotiating for the warmest seat in the house. Dogs, too, develop a sudden appreciation for fireplaces, blankets, and anything that generates heat. But when multiple pups share a home, this wintertime craving can lead to very funny territorial standoffs. A new video captures two Labradors determined to claim the fireside as their personal sanctuary.

Labrador are not willing to share space in hilarious video

The video shows two Labradors, Mattis and Liberty, who both appear convinced they deserve the fireside seat more than the other. Liberty has already claimed the wooden chair closest to the warm glow, sitting upright and clearly settled in. Beside her, Mattis tries to squeeze in, nudging the side of the chair as if hoping she’ll shift over just enough to let him share the spot. But Liberty stays planted, firmly committed to maintaining her personal space.

Their owner gently tells Liberty to make room, but the message falls on deaf ears. Instead of scooting over, Liberty gives a slow wag of her tail right into Mattis’ face, which only emphasizes her refusal to share. Mattis, meanwhile, refuses to back down. He holds a frisbee tightly in his mouth, something his owner jokingly calls his “emotional support” item. It’s almost as if he needs it to cope with the injustice of the situation. His stance is steady and hopeful, but Liberty’s expression makes it clear she’s not giving up her seat any time soon.

Viewers quickly took to the comments to weigh in on the sibling-like rivalry. One person wrote, “Mattis needs his own chair,” pointing out the obvious solution that the dogs themselves seem unwilling to accept. Another added, “Liberty is not into sharing!” Others found humor in Liberty’s subtle defiance, with one commenter noting, “A little sibling tail whip to the face is how she feels about it,” perfectly summing up her attitude.

Many compared the scene to classic childhood squabbles, saying the dogs were acting “like kids” who refuse to compromise, no matter how simple the fix might be.
