Video: Dog Justifies Why He Should Be on Santa’s ‘Nice List’

The best part about dogs is how confidently they defend their innocence, even when there is solid proof of their mischief. That is exactly why this latest video from @chasin_chester is comedy gold. In it, Chester, the Golden Retriever, is hunched over a letter like he’s drafting the most important appeal of his life.

The camera angle makes it look as if the paper itself is watching him write, his head tilted down in deep concentration as the pen “moves.” The letter starts with a classic opener — “Dear Santa, I can explain…” — which honestly tells you everything you need to know about the chaos that’s about to be revealed.

Dog sends Santa a letter to make the ‘nice list’ in video

It is no surprise that this video snagged over 9.4K likes. It’s the best mix of holiday spirit, dog logic, and father-son comedy. After the initial greeting, Chester immediately dives into explaining why he deserves to be on the nice list, which means explaining all his “deeds” of the year. Then, we’re flashed back to the “toilet paper incident,” where Chester is caught in a blizzard of shredded white fluff. According to his letter, the toilet paper “needed fluffing,” which — credit where it’s due — is a very creative interpretation of the crime.

Next comes the slipper situation. Chester swears he didn’t take his mom’s slippers; he was simply “keeping them warm.” Cut to him curled up in bed with them tucked right beside him. He’s looking totally innocent while his mom retrieves her stolen footwear. Then he sweetens the deal with a bribe only a SoCal dog family would understand: premium Erewhon cookies for Santa Paws. He signs off with an “Xoxo Chester,” proud as can be.

But Chase isn’t letting his son handle this alone. He slides into frame to add a P.S. He says that Chester is apologizing (and confessing, kind of) for chasing his baby sister, knocking her over, and stealing her snacks. According to him, it was all in the name of “helping her burn energy.”

By the end, both boys seem convinced they’ve sealed their spot on the Nice List… and really? After seeing this letter, it’s hard to argue with them.
