Video: Toddler Warns Golden Retriever About Approaching Stairs

Ask anyone who grew up with a dog, and they’ll tell you those memories shaped their childhood in the best way. Dogs don’t judge mispronounced words, spilled snacks, or chaotic toddler energy; they simply go along for the journey. One wholesome video by @ladyandtheblues recently shared online highlights that relationship as a toddler chats away to her Golden Retriever during their meaningful walk together.

Toddler and Golden Retriever go on a walk together in adorable video

A mom recently shared a wholesome video featuring her 2-year-old daughter, Olivia, and the family’s Golden Retriever, Lady. Wanting to capture the experience from the perspective of her curious toddler, she clipped a small microphone to Olivia before the walk. The result is a heartwarming look into the sweet bond forming between a child and her dog.

The footage shows Olivia walking closely beside Lady, speaking to her in a soft voice as if the dog fully understands every word. At one point, Olivia expresses concern about possible “wolves,” and gently tells Lady to protect her. Lady responds with calm attentiveness, walking slowly and staying right beside the toddler like a loyal guardian.

Throughout the walk, Olivia frequently pauses to pet Lady, hug her, and offer little kisses. The pair also takes time to explore the trail, stopping together to dig in the dirt as if it were a shared mission. Their parents later guide them to a nearby lake, where both toddler and dog splash around in the shallow water. The video ends back at home, where Olivia and Lady have fallen asleep together. Olivia rests her head on the dog’s side, using Lady almost like a pillow, while Lady lies perfectly still.

Hiking with a young child and a dog can be a rewarding way to enjoy nature, but it requires careful planning to keep everyone safe. Choosing beginner-friendly trails, ideally ones close to home or with easy exit points, helps ensure the walk stays manageable. You’ll also want to pack essentials like snacks, wipes, sunscreen, and plenty of water — not just for your toddler, but for your pup as well. Most importantly, a harness and sturdy leash can help prevent sudden movements if your dog becomes excited or startled.
