Dog parents will tell you: there’s a tiny, ridiculous stretch of time after a grooming session when your dog looks perfect… right before they immediately try to roll in something questionable. Maverick, the 9-year-old Golden Retriever, is sitting squarely in that window in a new video shared by @maverickthegoldennn.
He genuinely looks like he’s been buffed, polished, and fluffed by celebrity stylists, paw and all. His mom keeps talking to him in that warm, silly “I only talk like this to my dog” voice that comes out automatically during peak cuteness. It’s got big “patient child humoring an overexcited parent” energy, and it’s very funny to watch.

The video starts with Maverick sitting politely while his mom coos, “Look at this good boy. Did you get groomed?” He gives her a tiny snort and immediately, you can tell he’s used to this level of admiration. She zooms into the paws and announces, “Look at the toe beans… oh my goodness.” And she’s right to react that way. His paws look like they were airbrushed by a professional.
When she asks, “Can I have a paw? Let me see,” He hands it over politely, and she hits him with another “Wow. They look so good, Mavie.” His only protest is a soft blink that reads as, “Okay mom, that’s enough,” which she echoes aloud with a laugh. Then comes the part he doesn’t love. She keeps trying to show his tail, and he keeps turning just enough to block her.
The pet parent gives up with a fond, “Nope, you don’t want them to see it. Okay.” She compliments everything from his beard to his smell and then predicts the future perfectly: “Are you going to go roll on the leaves? Probably, right?” His ears twitch like he’s already planning the route.
