Dog owners understand the pain of leaving their pets behind at home. A sweet Instagram video of a rescue puppy shows just that, with a solution that has everyone talking and melting hearts. Dog owner @cactustherescue posted the clip showing how he came up with a creative way to help his rescue dog, Cactus, cope with loneliness when he leaves the house. The on-screen note reads, “Making a clone of myself for my puppy.”
Owner helps rescue puppy overcome loneliness
In the Instagram video, the recue puppy owner explains, “As you all know — and can see — Cactus loves to cuddle. Every time I leave the house, I feel really bad because he’s known to cuddle.” Hence, the owner wanted to “give him a way to cuddle with me even when I’m not home.” He then sets out to make a “clone” of himself using a hoodie, sweatpants, and a hat to create a stuffed figure that looks just like him.
While putting it together, he narrates, “This is gonna be the outfit,” and tells the rescue dog, “It’s gonna be your new buddy.” To finish the lookalike figure, he sprays it with his own perfume, giving it the scent that the puppy is familiar with.
After placing the stuffed figure on the bed, he tests it out by watching how Cactus reacts. At first, the dog seems curious, circling around it carefully, but moments later, he curls up right against the lookalike figure — just like he would do with his owner. The video ends with the caption, “Did I just solve all of Cactus’s future loneliness??” Viewers couldn’t get enough of it.
One commented, “Oh my god he is just the sweetest giant babe.” Another wrote, “When Dad isn’t there with Cactus, the next best thing… his clothes with his scent to feel close to him!” Others praised the creative gesture, with one writing, “Aww, he loves you so much!” and another chiming in with, “You’re such a thoughtful and caring dog dad. Cactus is very lucky to have you.”
The rescue puppy’s video shows that, sometimes, love resides in the smallest and sweetest gestures.
