It’s crunch time for Halloween, and one very good boy is feeling the pressure. In a video shared by @cactustherescue, Cactus — a sun-loving Miami rescue dog who was once found wandering the California desert — has an important mission: finding the perfect costume for his first doggy Halloween party.
The clip opens with his dad teasing, “Are you too embarrassed?,” as Cactus gives him the classic mix of patience and side-eye that’s just too funny. What follows is a shopping trip full of hope, costume fails, and plenty of tail wags.

The TikTok video, which has already racked up over 9K likes, starts with the rescue dog at home, unaware of what’s coming. Then his dad drops the news, “You got invited to a Halloween party! Let’s go pick out a costume.” Cactus quickly jumps up, ready for the adventure. However, as soon as they get to the store, the chaos begins.
First up is the hot dog costume. Cactus looks surprisingly good in it, earning a smile from a passing baby in a pram. But his dad isn’t convinced. “We can do better,” he says, reaching for the next option.
Then comes the banana. It’s big, bright, and slightly ridiculous. Cactus seems to agree, licking his dad as if to say, “This is not it.” The hat quickly falls off, signaling the end of that possibility.
They try a cowboy outfit next, which his dad loves, saying, “You look cute, buddy.” However, the hat is clearly not a hit, and Cactus silently rejects it. By the time they try the bumblebee, the pup has had enough — he flops over dramatically on the floor, costume half-on.
His dad, defeated, tells him, “I take it you don’t like the bumblebee. You don’t like any of these, do you? I think we struck out on costumes.”
Commenters, of course, had suggestions and favorites: “Hear me out… a cactus costume,” one wrote. Another joked, “Cactus is at the age where it’s embarrassing to go shopping with your dad.” Perhaps the next Halloween costume at the next store might be it for the rescue dog.
