Losing a loved one is difficult, not just for people but animals as well. Canines, in particular, form strong bonds with their companions, and when that connection is broken, they often show grief in ways that mirror human sadness. An Instagram video of a rescue dog shows just how deeply these furbabies can feel loss. It also captures how kindness and support can help them move forward.

Angelina Jolie, a black street dog, and Bob, a Shepherd mix, were once inseparable. Rescued from the streets together, the pair quickly became a symbol of loyalty and companionship. Wherever Bob went, Angelina followed, and the two offered each other comfort after years of surviving on their own. Their bond was strong, but sadly, not destined to last forever.
Angelina fell ill and was soon diagnosed with advanced stage 4 kidney failure. Despite veterinary care, her health declined rapidly, and she eventually passed away. For Bob, the loss was devastating. According to Niall Harbison, founder of the Thailand-based rescue group Happy Doggo, the Shepherd mix had spent nearly his whole life with Angelina, “so it was no surprise to see him grieving.”
In a recent Instagram update, Harbison shared how Bob has been coping in the weeks since. He explained in the video that the rescue dog had been “a little delicate” since Angelina’s passing, and the team was making every effort to keep him engaged. Surrounded by other pups, regular walks, and gentle encouragement, Bob has slowly been finding his rhythm again.
Harbison eventually decided to grant the Shepherd mix what he calls the “golden ticket.” At Happy Doggo, this means a permanent place at the sanctuary, reserved for canines who are old, sick, or unable to thrive in traditional homes. It ensures that Bob will spend the rest of his life in safety, comfort, and love.
Though Harbison sometimes notices the rescue daydreaming or trembling as if lost in memories of Angelina, there are signs of healing. “I also see him always wagging his tail and pushing on for walks and new friends,” Harbison shared. “We are all very proud of him indeed.”
