When you bring a dog into your home, ordinary household items take on entirely new purposes. Chairs double as lookout towers, socks transform into chew toys, and rugs, as Mattis the dog has demonstrated, can even serve as washcloths. After finishing his nightly snack, this Labrador heads to the carpet and wipes his snout like he’s fresh from a five-course meal, a moment his owner recently captured on video.
Labrador wipes his snout after late night snack in cute video
This yellow Labrador has gone viral on Instagram after his owner filmed his unusual way of cleaning up. The clip shows Mattis making himself comfortable in the living room after enjoying his nightly frozen Kong treat. A frozen Kong is a popular dog toy stuffed with food and then frozen for an extended chew session. Rather than finishing up and moving on, Mattis heads straight to the rug, pressing his face down and rubbing side to side as if it were his personal napkin.
According to his owner, this isn’t a one-off incident but a nightly routine. After polishing off his Kong, Mattis dives into the carpet and rubs with such enthusiasm that it almost looks like a dance move. The sight of his floppy ears bouncing with each wiggle adds even more humor to the moment. It seems the rug has become an essential part of his snack ritual, and judging by the video, Mattis takes his cleanup duties very seriously, or at least enjoys them.
Many viewers were in stitches over Mattis’ antics. “Oh Mattis! Are you rubbing IN the bits of flavor or rubbing it off,” one fan joked. Another added, “So nice of you to provide such a large wash cloth,” poking fun at the rug’s unintended role in his nightly ritual. Others related instantly, pointing out that their own dogs do the exact same thing. One owner wrote, “Macaroni does this after every meal! Usually he’ll wait until he’s in the yard and do it in the grass… but if I’m not quick enough, the bed or rug will do.”
While it might mean more vacuuming for owners, most agree it’s a small price to pay for the joy of watching their dog’s unique quirks play out.
