Golden Retriever Fetches a Drink for Owner in Adorable Video

Relaxing in a hot tub feels great, until the thirst kicks in and forces you to climb out for a drink. Unless, of course, you happen to have a four-legged “butler” on call. That’s exactly the case for one lucky dog dad, whose Golden Retriever was caught on video fetching him a drink. Now, viewers are wondering how to train their own pups to pull off the same trick.

Instagram video shows Golden Retriever displaying new trick by getting owner a drink

Ellie, a Golden Retriever already well-known online for her lovable personality, has once again caught attention with her latest viral moment. In the clip shared on @elliegoldenlife, her owner, Kevin, is relaxing in a hot tub when he decides to put the pup’s training to the test. Calling out to her, he asks for a drink from the nearby cooler box.

Without hesitation, the Golden springs into action. She trots over to the cooler and carefully grabs a can between her teeth. As she makes her way back, the can slips from her mouth midway. Nonetheless, as Kevin tells her, it’s the “thought that counts.” With the task complete, Ellie earns a well-deserved treat from her dad.

Despite the minor mishap, the entire interaction feels like a well-practiced routine, showcasing not only Ellie’s smarts but also the strong bond between her and Kevin. One commenter wrote, “That’s really cute! So handy when you’re in the hot tub.” Another joked, “I need to teach this to my dog.”

Fans of Ellie also chimed in with affection, with one person noting, “Ellie is so sweet. She absolutely adores you.” Meanwhile, another playfully added, “I’m surprised Ellie hasn’t jumped into the hot tub yet!”

To get your dog started on this trick, break it into small steps. First, teach them to “take it” and hold an object. Then, reward them for bringing it back. Once they’ve mastered that, swap the toy for an empty can and let them practice carrying it.

From there, you can add the cooler, first with the lid open so they can easily grab the can. With time, chain the steps together using consistent cues, and always keep training sessions fun and rewarding.
