Willow, a miniature Dachshund from Connecticut, has become a TikTok favorite thanks to her unusual attention-seeking method. Her owner, Tracy Kuhrt, runs the page @gingertray, where she regularly posts clips of Willow’s antics. One of those videos went massively viral, pulling in nearly 3 million likes and over 11K comments.
According to Kuhrt, she originally trained Willow to use the bell as a practical tool. The idea was to help with potty training. It was also a good way for the pup to signal when she needed to go outside.
However, over time, the Dachshund’s use of the bell expanded into new territories, as captured in the video. Now, it’s her go-to method for demanding treats, asking for attention, or simply letting everyone know she’s not being acknowledged quickly enough.
The viral video, captioned “When it’s the first nice day in a week,” shows Willow approaching the small reception-style bell placed on the floor. She makes deliberate eye contact with the camera before tapping it repeatedly with her paw.
The ringing doesn’t stop until her mom responds. Kuhrt says she can always tell when it’s coming. The Doxie’s “tippy taps” on the floor give her away as she marches toward the bell with purpose.
What started as a training tool has now flipped into a running joke in the pet parent’s home. “We trained Willow to ring the bell,” she told The Dodo, “but now it’s really turned into Willow has trained us.”
