Video: Samoyed Pretends To Faint on Camera So Owner Can Leave Work Early

It’s hard to say whether dogs truly understand cause and effect the way humans do, but some certainly act like they’ve cracked the code. They know that a certain bark gets them a snack, and a leash rattle means adventure time. It seems like they might also know that a dramatic faint might just make their human abandon their work and come home to them sooner. One Samoyed put that theory to the test with surprising flair in an Instagram video.

Samoyed stages the perfect act for owner to leave work early in video

Ody, a Samoyed, might just have what it takes to land a movie role. His owner, who runs the Instagram account @ody.snowbear, recently posted a home security camera video that perfectly captures his theatrical flair. The onscreen caption read, “POV: I told my dog to faint in front of the camera so I can leave work early.”

In the footage, Ody is lounging on a mattress in full view of the camera. For a few moments, he sits upright, almost as if he’s deep in thought. The pup might just be thinking about how to best execute his plan.

Then, in what can only be described as comedic timing, he slowly leans to the side and gently “collapses” onto the bed. The move is so drawn out and deliberate that his owner dubbed it the “cutest and slow motion faint.”

If Ody’s faint was a workday strategy, the internet was quick to clock in on the joke. One viewer joked, “I would be out the door by the time baby sat down because I felt it coming.” Another quipped, “Dog was a literal paid actor…well, I hope you paid him well.” Someone else playfully teased Ody’s pace, saying, “It might have worked but it took him 7 business days to faint.”

Fans have been tagging friends, sharing the adorable video. Many were left imagining what would happen if the Samoyed’s acting was taken seriously enough to summon his owner. While it’s clear the stunt was all in good fun, many admitted they’d probably fall for the trick.
