Video: Dad’s ‘Midday Power Nap’ With Golden Retriever Is the Opposite of What It Sounds Like

There’s nothing like a good midday nap to recharge your batteries — but as one puppy’s dad discovered in this video, catching a few winks isn’t so easy when there’s a curious Golden Retriever in the house.

In an Instagram Reel warming hearts online, a man stretches out for a peaceful snooze on the couch, only to have his little fluffball decide that nap time is actually playtime. What follows is a sweet, persistent attempt by the pup to get his dad’s attention, complete with adorable nudges and tail wags.

Dad’s ‘midday power nap’ with Golden Retriever puppy gets chaotic in video

In the short clip, which has been going viral online, the Golden Retriever pup named Goose trots over to the couch, ears perked and tail wagging. At first, he plonks himself on top of his dad, looking ahead as if he is bored. However, patience only lasts so long when you’re a puppy with boundless curiosity.

Goose then begins asking his dad for playtime. He nudges his owner’s face and even nibbles on his nose. His little tail wags the whole time, thumping against the couch. Next, he nibbles on his dad’s ears, which the caption from Goose’s POV describes as “soft and tasty.”

The video makes it clear that the pup just wants to play, but his dad is too tired to do so. A new text caption reveals, “Dad is tired from Goose waking him up at 5 am today.” This explains everything, as the pet parent desperately tries to catch a wink while having a Golden pup around.

Goose keeps trying, licking his dad’s face and pawing at his hand. When his human’s hand doesn’t budge, the puppy nibbles on it too. The dog dad makes a futile attempt to get some sleep, booping Goose on the snoot. The whole interaction is so sweet that it’s sure to melt your heart.

The man’s mock-annoyed expression paired with the pup’s unbothered enthusiasm struck a chord with dog lovers everywhere. Many couldn’t help but share their own relatable stories in the comments section.

One pet parent admitted that their “5-year-old Golden Retriever still does the same thing to this day.” Another simply summed it up with, “I feel this pain. I’m currently in the golden puppy trenches myself.” It seems like this is a price that all new dog parents have to pay, but they don’t mind it one bit.
