Video: Golden Retriever Thinks Outdoor Roomba Is Threat

In an age of smart devices and AI-powered appliances, you might expect a little tension between dogs and technology. After all, these gadgets move without a human, make strange noises, and don’t even smell right. So, when an outdoor Roomba entered one Golden Retriever’s peaceful walking route, as seen in a new video, he did what any good furry security guard would do: bark first, ask questions later.

Golden Retriever reacts to outdoor Roomba in funny video

Duke, a 4-year-old Golden Retriever with a fanbase of 50.3K followers on Instagram (@thedukeofmadison), recently found himself in a situation he wasn’t prepared for. While out on a casual walk with his owner, Duke spotted something strange moving across the grass – a small robotic lawn mower. His owner jokingly referred to it as an “outdoor Roomba,” and Duke wasn’t about to let it pass without a proper inspection.

In the video, Duke stops in his tracks the moment he notices the device creeping along the lawn. His posture shifts from relaxed to alert, and he starts circling the mower with serious suspicion. The typically friendly retriever starts barking, keeping a safe distance as he tries to make sense of the strange machine invading his path. He sniffs the air, backs up, then lunges forward slightly, trying to figure out whether the Roomba is friend or foe.

The video quickly went viral, with hundreds of viewers finding Duke’s reaction both relatable and hilarious. “What the fluff is that thing? I’ve never seen one before,” one commenter wrote, speaking on behalf of confused dogs everywhere. Another chimed in with, “Neighborhood watchdog Duke,” while a third joked, “Haha, Duke says not on my walkie.” The comment section became a string of dog lovers sharing stories of their own pets reacting to vacuums, hairdryers, and other “suspicious” household tech.
