Hudson the Golden seems to be fully convinced that his back legs are just for show. While he certainly has the looks, this pup prefers to keep things quite minimal when it comes to effort. In a recent video, the Golden Retriever’s owner exposes his hilarious refusal to use his back legs for tasks that require jumping, or even the lightest push from his hind limbs.
Golden Retriever using back legs as ‘decoration’ in funny video
The Instagram Reel begins with the caption, “One thing you didn’t know about Golden Retrievers…” It is followed by a clip of Hudson trying (but not really) to hop into the back seat of a car. He places his front paws on the seat, but that’s where the effort stops. His owner gives his back end a gentle push, and up he goes.
Then comes the punchline, revealed in text overlay: “Their back legs are decoration ONLY!” The video continues with a string of clips showing Hudson doing the same thing in different situations. At home, he tries to get onto the bed, again needing a slight boost.
At a store, he reaches up toward the counter with his front paws. In the clip, his back legs are planted firmly like they’re on a break. Back at home, another attempt at getting on the bed ends with his owner lifting him by the rear. In each instance, the plot is the same — Hudson expects his mom to do the heavy lifting, literally.
Turns out, the pup isn’t alone. Plenty of pet parents chimed in with stories of their own dogs, who also expect a lift, proving this is less a fluke and more a Golden Retriever lifestyle. One viewer joked, “I love when they look back like, ‘Girl, you know I need a push.’”
Another chimed in, “Unless there’s food,” suggesting that those “decorative” legs suddenly spring into action when snacks are involved. Others saw through the act entirely, with one commenter writing, “Hudson is so funny i think he just likes getting help from mom.”
The Golden Retriever clearly believes in working smarter, not harder. And honestly, who can blame him when the system’s working perfectly?
