Video: Golden Retriever Practices ‘Daily Affirmations’ In Front of Mirror

Morning routines are no longer just for humans, at least not according to the internet. From people sharing skincare regimens to gym check-ins and meditation apps, the trend of starting the day with intention has gone mainstream. Now, a Golden Retriever also seems to be getting in on the ritual of positive affirmations, as shown in a wholesome video that’s quickly making the rounds on Instagram.

Golden Retriever vows to ‘catch the ball today’ in viral video

Ike, a lovable Golden Retriever, has unintentionally become the internet’s newest self-help icon. In a recent video, Ike is seen standing in front of a mirror, staring seriously at his own reflection as if gearing up for a big moment. What makes the video even more entertaining is the clever audio and text overlay that turns Ike’s intense gaze into something resembling a self-help session.

The video features the iconic line from comedian Al Franken’s old “Saturday Night Live” character Stuart Smalley, “And I’m gonna help people because I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.” For Ike, his owner edited the line slightly to match the dog theme. On screen, the text reads: “I will catch the ball today because I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.”

While it’s clear Ike isn’t actually reciting affirmations — he’s just being a very good boy in front of a mirror — the internet couldn’t resist the charm of the moment. Viewers flooded the comments section with encouragement and love for Ike. One person wrote, “You will catch the ball because you are perfect.” Another added, “You are definitely good enough.” Others simply appreciated the sweet pup, with one user saying, “Out here making everybody’s day.”

For Ike, it might be catching the ball. For the rest of us, it might be just getting through the workday. Either way, it’s a wholesome reminder that everyone, furry or not, needs a little pep talk sometimes.

And whether or not Ike catches the ball on his next try is beside the point. He’s already won us over, and maybe inspired a few of us to believe in ourselves just a little more.
