Not all dogs can successfully make it through rigorous training and become service dogs, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a loving home. Dog owner Samantha Welborn has been documenting the journey of her adopted dog, an English Labrador Retriever named Leo, who dropped out of service school. In a recent Instagram video that has gone viral, the canine brought his owner different household items to “help” her get ready for the day. The dog’s adorable antics warmed netizens’ hearts, who showered love and support on the duo’s beautiful bond.
Instagram video shows how a ‘special dog’ helps his owner in a very unique way
An English Labrador Retriever named Leo is showing what unconditional love means. His mom, Samantha Welborn, took to her Instagram account to share one of the dog’s many interesting personalities. The clip featured the canine walking into the room with different items that may be of the owner’s use.
In the video caption, Welborn mentioned how her adopted “special dog,” who couldn’t make the cut to service dog school, had his own way of assisting her. The clip began with Leo bringing his mom one shoe and dropping it on the floor before looking at his mom with his doe-like look.
He followed it up with duct tape, hand gloves, and what appeared to be Halls’ throat and cough drops. The owner expressed how the medicine wasn’t “random,” given that she was, in fact, sick. Soon, the dog realized he had only brought his mom one shoe. He went in to grab another one and hand it over. Although it was a different shoe, it only made his act more adorable.
Leo continued his random object run, only to return this time with a cap. The clip ended with the owner recording her dogs on a walk in lush green forestlands. In the Instagram post’s caption, Welborn mentioned that while some may see Leo’s actions as “bad behavior” or may find it annoying, it always brings a smile to her face and “brightens her day.” The owner continued, “As long as Leo wants to help, I will encourage him and make sure he knows I appreciate him.”
Service dogs play a key role in aiding people with support needs. They undergo training to offer individuals assistance and independence, and support. However, some dogs fail training due to health or behavior-related reasons.
