What do swans, vacuum cleaners, and hair rollers have in common? For most people, not much; but for one Rottweiler named Dyce, they’re all cause for alarm. A recent Instagram video has viewers cracking up as it shows the dog’s terrified reactions to some of the most harmless things imaginable, like a banana.
Rottie is scared of the randomest things in funny video
The video features their Rottweiler, Dyce, who clearly has a strong sense of self-preservation — sometimes a little too strong. It opens with the text: “Things my Rottweiler is scared of…” followed by a series of clips that show Dyce encountering a range of very unthreatening “threats.” First up: swans. As Dyce cautiously walks past a group of swans, he makes sure to keep a safe distance, with his body language saying, “I want no part of this.”
Then, his owner holds a banana in front of him, and Dyce instantly backs away, clearly suspicious of the harmless fruit. However, things get even stranger. In the next scene, Dyce strolls past a construction crane with visible hesitation, keeping a wary eye on the towering machine. The video continues with the dog’s reaction to a vacuum cleaner. While the owner is cleaning the couch, the Rottweiler jumps at the sight of the vacuum. Finally, Dyce eyes the hair roller his owner holds out in front of him, unsure whether to bark or bolt.
The video has pulled in over 226K views and over 15K likes as of writing. One person joked, “He was like Mom I’m not playing with you. Get that hair roller away from me!” Another chimed in, “Okay but the swans are a valid fear….” Many others listed everything from brooms to poster boards as their own dogs’ personal nightmares.
Dogs, like humans, can develop strange associations with certain sights, sounds, or smells, especially if they’ve never encountered them before. Items that move unpredictably, make noise, or have an odd texture can easily spook them. In the case of this Rottie, it’s clear that even the most fearless-looking dogs have their soft spots, and they’re often more amusing than threatening.
