Claire, who recently celebrated her ninth birthday, was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2024 and bravely faced two rounds of radiation and chemotherapy. According to Newport, the Boxer handled her health challenges “like an absolute champ.” However, as Claire’s discomfort and pain became evident, Newport and her husband, Todd Bradley, made the heartbreaking decision to opt for humane euthanasia, allowing Claire to rest peacefully.
Describing Claire as the “heart and center” of their household, Newport recounted the deep bond she shared with her loyal companion. Known for her love of cozy blankets, pajamas, long walks, car rides, and snacks, Claire was not only a best friend to Newport but also a nurturing figure to the other dogs in the household. Claire, Newport recalled, took on the role of an “emotional support pet,” helping her family navigate through life’s milestones and challenges, including her engagement, wedding, and several personal struggles.
Reflecting on her time with Claire, Newport expressed gratitude for the dog’s comforting presence. “I’m so grateful for her snuggles and farts, and for the steady and constant presence of support and love she has been to me, my husband, my daughter, my father, and every friend who ever came to our house whose lap she’d promptly climb onto!” Newport wrote.
In her Instagram story, Newport reflected on her annual Galentine’s event, where Claire had always been a beloved guest. With Valentine’s Day approaching, she admitted she couldn’t bring herself to celebrate without Claire by her side. Instead, she chose to honor her pup’s memory by donating to the humane society and encouraged her followers to support local shelters in Claire’s tribute.
