Two weeks ago we received a text from the angel of a human who runs the rescue @forgotten_now_family_rescue. A dog she had never met before had been left at the vet in extremely critical condition and she was told he might not survive the night, but if he did, he needed a rescue to sponsor him. She wasn’t close enough to be there in case he didn’t make it, so she asked us to. If he was showing enough signs that the heartbreaking decision to put him down would be necessary, she didn’t want him leaving this world without being surrounded by love. Of course we were willing. But we hoped that wouldn’t be how we met. Boden made sure of that himself. He fought for his life that night just like he did when he caught fire. So, the next day, we met him to bring him to a veterinary hospital that could get him through the next tough part of his journey. From the few hours we spent with him, he left his mark on us. We could see his will to live and how even underneath all of his pain, he just wanted to love and to be loved. So we knew when he was ready to leave that hospital, he wasn’t going to another. He was coming to our home where we can be certain that he will never experience something like this again. Boden will require several treatments and medication every single day, while we also ensure we are maintaining a disinfected safe place for him and keeping ourselves and him clean. He can’t be around the other dogs yet and he will have to wear a cone until his exposed burns are healed. His journey with us won’t be the easiest or the shortest, but that’s why we are glad he’s here. Boden will be able to heal at our home physically and emotionally until he’s ready to find a family that would never let this or any other harm come his way for the rest of his life.
