For this year, the World’s Cutest Rescue Dog award goes to an adorable Pit Bull mix named Margot. Her pet parent adopted her in November 2022 after spotting her on Facebook. Margot is a Pit Bull and American Bulldog mix with different colored eyes and speckled fur. During the voting period, the pup quickly grabbed everyone’s attention, which allowed her to take home the esteemed title this year.
How the Pit Bull mix’s unique eyes led to her adoption and 2024 World’s Cutest Rescue Dog win
Julia Zupan first discovered Margot while she was scrolling through Facebook. According to PEOPLE, the dog lover used to take canines from the Cincinnati Animal CARE for de-stressing walks to get her “dog fix.” However, it all changed when she spotted the adorable Pittie with striking blue and brown eyes and speckled fur.
It all began with Zupan scheduling a day visit, where Margot would get to stay at her home. The World’s Cutest Rescue Dog winner got really comfortable with Zupan, which prompted the pet owner to officially adopt Margot two days after meeting her. She told the outlet, “I wasn’t looking for a dog. But I just knew that I couldn’t give this one up.”
The Pit Bull and American Bulldog mix’s cuddly and sweet personality won everyone’s hearts on the internet. Her mismatched eye color and interesting fur color were other factors that contributed to her win. The contest is presented by the pet food brand Pedigree in collaboration with PEOPLE Magazine. Besides the esteemed title, Margot won a year’s supply of dog food from Pedigree. She also won $1,000, which the family can donate to a rescue organization of their choice.
Zupan went ahead and donated the dog food prize to Cincinnati Animal CARE. She noted in an Instagram post, “We just don’t need that.” The project management specialist decided that the Ohio-based animal shelter could benefit so much more from the 12 bags of dog food.
