A homeless teen from San Antonio, Texas, and his dog have garnered attention after their crisis story went viral on social media. A GoFundMe page was created to support 19-year-old Samuel Haymon and his dog Mordex, a German Shepherd. The fundraiser has surpassed $35K at the time of writing.

The GoFundMe page notes that Samuel and his brother, Dante Haymon, found themselves homeless after losing their apartment. The latter was able to get into Haven For Hope. However, since there was no room in the shelter’s kennels, Samuel and Mordex ended up on the streets. He refused to abandon their 2-year-old dog.

Over 650 people have donated to the teen & dog’s fundraiser

The homeless teen, Samuel Haymon, told KENS5 that Mordex was a “main priority.” As the pup couldn’t come to Haven for Hope with the brothers, Samuel decided to stay on the streets with him — “he’s my son.” The teen went door to door asking for help in buying “food and stuff.” Besides that, Samuel also shared that he slept on a bench at the Wonderland of the Americas Mall.

Samuel and Mordex’s story made its way to Facebook after a few workers at a nearby clinic saw the two and wanted to help them. Following that, Candida Campos with Bee Pawsitive Husky Rescue came across the post and offered help to the homeless teen and his dog.

The GoFundMe page shared that Bee Pawsitive Husky Rescue offered a place for Samuel and Mordex to stay at their property. The organization also helped the teen secure a job. KENS5 noted that Mordex had to stay with a foster for about a week while Samuel was getting situated. However, the two reunited last weekend.

The fundraiser now aims to cover the costs of the camper, generator, and gas. Additionally, it’s raising funds for Mordex to be vetted and his food, among other things. The page details all the utilities required to set up a sturdy shelter for Samuel and his furbaby. Once that’s done, they hope to reunite Dante with his brother and Mordex. The GoFundMe for Samuel and his dog has received donations from over 900 people at the time of writing.
