Residents of the Jewish Senior Life of Metropolitan Detroit witnessed something incredible on Monday, August 19, 2024. Two beloved pet dogs, Simba and Shelby, got married in front of 75 wedding guests. The organization arranged the wedding with exciting activities for their inhabitants to enjoy. The happy bride and groom sat by their owners’ feet at the wedding hall while passersby pat them and congratulated them on getting married.

One of the administrators, Marcia, explained that this is the first puppy wedding to take place at the apartment building. She further revealed that the event was planned by Jennifer, the program coordinator of the Meer Apartments building. Simba, the groom, wore a tuxedo vest. Like other Jewish men, he was adorned with a kippah. Meanwhile, the bride, Shelby looked adorable in a beautiful white frock.
Marica, who served as the wedding official, took the liberty of narrating Simba and Shelby’s “pawsome” love story in front of the guests. She revealed that it started after Shelby moved into the apartments with her owner, Audrey Demak. Simba, an 8-year-old cockapoo, was already living in the building with his owner, Jean.
They soon formed a bond and became best friends as their owners started taking them for weekly walks every Saturday. Before they knew it, their friendship turned into love.
During their wedding, Shelby could not sit still. She constantly wagged her tail and greeted visitors with curiosity. Simba was calm and sat patiently while the event unfolded. Following Jewish customs, the pups walked down the aisle with their owners and “tied the knot” under a chuppah. The guests cheered Mazel tov to commemorate the happy occasion.
What makes the nuptial event even more special is that instead of wedding gifts, the organizers requested the attendees donate to Michigan Humane, one of the state’s oldest and largest animal welfare organizations. They raised over $400 in donations to help other animals in need.
