Reportedly, a dog recently ingested marijuana while out on a walk in the United Kingdom. The incident left the pet owner distraught, with him warning others to be wary of the same happening to their furry friends. Fortunately, the canine was rushed to the emergency vet and treated right away, as the psychoactive component of cannabis, THC, is toxic to them.
Owner warns fellow pet parents after his dog ingests marijuana during walk in Kent, England
While enjoying a beautiful walk, Stephen Davidson’s pup allegedly consumed cannabis. The U.K.-based dog owner noticed the symptoms a few hours after the walk. His fears were confirmed when he took his West Highland White Terrier to the emergency vet. The dog had ingested marijuana, with the pet parent believing it was during his walk in Kent, England.
The canine first started showing signs of lethargy and then stopped drinking water. The owner noticed his 8-year-old dog was acting unusual, with the man rushing him to the emergency vet. According to Fox News, the veterinarian put something down the canine’s throat. His lack of gag reflex was telling that he was drugged.
The West Highland White Terrier, Oscar, stayed at the vet’s for the night to remain under observation. The pup received activated charcoal medication and an IV drip while he was there. Davidson exclaimed his beloved pet would have died of dehydration if he hadn’t been treated promptly.
With about a $1,000 vet bill, the dog owner is hoping Oscar’s pet insurance will cover some of it. Davidson noted, “It’s so bad in this town. People are just smoking it anywhere, and then they throw it on the ground…I just want people to be extra careful of what their dogs pick up and be aware of any dangers when walking them.”
Reportedly, the dog owner had taken his pup to the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) after he ingested marijuana. A nurse working for the organization stated that it was very much possible for a canine to consume cannabis and other things toxic to them while they are on their walks.
