A Golden Retriever saved a Poodle from a fatal encounter on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. After spotting a pup in danger, the dog saved them from a coyote attack. The Golden Retriever’s heroic gesture saved the Poodle’s life, allowing them to escape without injuries. The other canine was fortunate because it might not have ended well for them, considering the coyote had them by the neck.
Golden Retriever saves a Poodle from coyote attack on Sullivan’s Island
The incident occurred in June when Golden Retriever Kona and her owner, Ashly Chardukian, were relaxing at the beach. However, the day took a turn for the worse when the duo heard yelping from behind where they were sitting. The group spotted a coyote with a Poodle pinned by their neck. The pup’s owner was desperately trying to save them.
Kona quickly jumped to their rescue, running towards the coyote while barking. This caused the wild canine to leave their prey behind and run away. Fortunately, the Golden Retriever saved the Poodle just in time, as they managed to escape the situation without any injuries. The small dog was lucky to make it out alive, as their compact size makes them the perfect prey for the coyotes.
Chardukian told WCSC that she first questioned Kona’s actions, as she isn’t supposed to do that. However, she believed the heroic deed was “special.” She exclaimed, “It was nice to be able to witness and I’m happy that the other dog was safe. Of course, I’m proud of her.”
Police Chief Glenn Meadows noted that there were three coyote sightings earlier this year, but the attacks have gone down significantly since. The coyotes have been noticed to attack only the dogs who weren’t leashed. He also believed it was fortunate that the coyotes had only been reported to attack pups, which pet parents can prevent by having them on leashes.
