On July 1, a dog was found abandoned on the side of the highway, tied to a pole with a note by her side. There was also a bowl of food beside the canine. Moreover, the owner asked whoever rescued her to ensure she got “good care.” However, the highway is a major one and is usually quite busy. So, the situation could have taken an ugly turn and put the pup’s life at risk.
Owner abandons dog with a note, found tied to pole on side of Long Island highway
On Monday, a Bullmastiff was found on the side of a highway in Long Island, New York. The authorities discovered her after several drivers reported an abandoned dog tied to a light pole. The police started receiving calls early in the morning, at around 5:30 a.m. ET. When officers reached the scene, they noticed the owner had left behind a note and a food bowl by the canine’s side.
The handwritten note stated that the dog’s name was Roxi, a beautiful American Bullmastiff. The owner also noted that she was well-trained and only four years old. They had fed her and given her a flea bath, asking whoever rescued the canine to take good care of her. Officers added that the pup’s calm personality made the rescue mission easier.
However, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly told News 12 that simply leaving behind a note wasn’t enough. There was no excuse for leaving Roxi on the side of a major highway. Roxi could have been run over or worse if not discovered in time by the authorities, all thanks to the drivers promptly reporting the case to the police.
Fortunately, several have shown interest in adopting the dog, and there is a long waiting list. Although Roxi is a little underweight, she is doing quite well. Authorities told the New York Post that they are currently searching for the suspect and will be pressing charges.
