Many may be surprised to learn that the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s canine is named after the Pittsburgh Steelers. When Brittany Mahomes was still in college, Patrick gifted her a dog. The former soccer player was a big fan of the Steelers during her college days. So, it was an obvious choice for her to honor her favorite football team by naming her new furry friend after them.

Steel is an eight-year-old Pit Bull and lives with the couple’s second pet, Silver. Brittany and Patrick Mahomes’ dogs are pretty energetic, according to what she told People. She explained, “…I actually used to be a Steelers fan, and that’s how I got the name Steel, so that’s a great story.”

The couple considers their canines to be their children as well. Brittany stated that they always think of it as having four kids. Brittany and Patrick share a daughter and a son, Sterling Skye and Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, along with the dogs. The former soccer player has always had canine companions in her house throughout her childhood. Moreover, she noted that she can’t remember ever living in a home without a dog.

Brittany recently partnered with PetSafe and celebrity dog trainer Tom Davis. The trainer has helped ease Steel and Silver into the NFL lifestyle. In the interview, she stated that the family has worked with Davis for quite some time. Moreover, due to their fast-paced lifestyle that requires frequent travel, having an expert to work with them ensures it never gets too overwhelming for the dogs.
