Indiana Shelter Dog Deserted by Family, Looking for New Home

On May 7, the Humane Society for Hamilton County shared a heartbreaking video on Facebook of a Pit Bull Terrier mix that is “majorly depressed.” The shelter dog used to have a family of his own but was deserted by them and is now looking for a new forever home that will provide him the love and care he needs.

Shelter dog ‘cries endlessly’ after being deserted by family

The Indiana shelter took to Facebook to share Pit Bull Terrier mix Major’s story. The pup is four years and ten months old and is up for adoption for any willing families. Major arrived in the shelter in August 2023, where he was determined to be a stray.

The Humane Society for Hamilton County found a microchip on him. Unfortunately, the number registered forwarded them to a family who agreed to pick him up from the shelter, only to never come for him.

The shelter tried lifting the deserted dog’s mood by shifting him from the kennels to one of their visiting room. However, Major is still quite depressive and “cries endlessly,” per the Kansas City Star. The Pit Bull Terrier mix used to have an exuberant personality. But the staff have noticed it is “dimming,” and he prefers simply sitting in his room.

His size and energetic persona make him best suited for families without little kids and feline friends. However, Major is great with dogs and would be open to having canine siblings to keep him company. The Humane Society for Hamilton County highlighted that a first meeting at the shelter is highly recommended to ensure all goes well after the adoption.

The shelter staff lovingly calls the pup Major Hunk. The dog comes equipped with a Jolly Ball, his emotional support toy that he very much loves. He is a great sport and loves playing tug. So, if one is looking for a charismatic canine, Major might be the perfect companion.
