Dog on the Road to Recovery After Being Shot in New York

On April 22, a dog was shot within the safety of her home in Queens, New York. The Pomsky was shot in the leg by a teenager who was allegedly playing with a gun. However, the bullet ended up injuring the pup’s colon as well, which resulted in her needing surgery. Fortunately, the dog survived the shooting and is recovering well after her surgery.

A 6-year-old Pomsky named Arya was lounging in the safety of her home when a stray bullet caught her by surprise on Monday, as per People. Police suspect that teen Joshua Marte fired the bullet while he was playing around with a handgun. It caught Arya near her groin, nicking her colon.

While Arya is recovering well, she can’t walk or eat until the veterinarians give her the okay. However, her owners reassured the New York Post, “She’s doing alright. She’s a little mushy.” They noted that she is a very quiet pup who doesn’t bark often. Moreover, the dog’s parents only realized she was shot after they heard her whimpering, promptly taking her to the vet the next day.

After inspecting the wound on the day of the shooting, Arya’s parents determined the injury was just a cut, not realizing that their dog had been shot. It wasn’t until the following day that they noticed the wound was still bleeding, and the pup seemed to still be in discomfort.

Upon further investigation, police discovered some bullet holes in the neighboring house’s wall, with the resident confirming the same. The resident concluded her son could have caused the accident. The NYPD also found two firearms in the freezer, which the woman placed herself after she panicked.

18-year-old Joshua Marte had run away from home after the incident but later surrendered on April 23. The teen has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and torture. Police believe it was accidental, with the 18-year-old saying to them, “I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
