Missing Dog Reunited With Owner on Her Birthday in Ohio

A heart-breaking separation turned into a joyous reunion for one dog owner this week. After over a week of uncertainty, Miss Landis was elated to be reunited with her missing dog, a beloved Husky called Hines, on her birthday. The reunion unfolded more than 100 miles away from their hometown of Columbus, Ohio, as Hines was discovered in Toledo, Ohio.

Neveah Smith of Toledo stumbled upon Hines, who lacked a collar, and was wandering in her neighborhood, as per People. She promptly took him to the Toledo Humane Society Clinic, where staff identified his microchip. Upon contacting Landis, they ensured her of Hines’ safety.

When Smith contacted Landis about finding her dog, Landis was shocked to learn that her dog had reached Toledo.

Upon discovering her dog’s location, Landis traveled two hours to Toledo, a city she had never visited before. In her words, “It’s the best birthday present to get little Hines-y back. You guys don’t know how much this means to us.” Moreover, she expressed gratitude to all who contributed to making the gift a reality.

Meanwhile, Smith expressed equal joy in reuniting Hines with his owner, emphasizing her relief that he was microchipped. She noted, “I’m always nervous that they won’t [be microchipped] because not many people do it. But I’m so glad that he did.”

Diana Nobles, a receptionist at the Toledo Humane Society Clinic, highlighted the significance of pet microchipping. She explained, “This is one of the main reasons we want to get everyone microchipped… [to] be able to get pets back to their owner, should it run away or should someone take it. And in this case it was a beautiful, beautiful reunion.”

As per WGTV, Nobles also mentioned that scanning a microchip merely requires a few seconds. Therefore, she urged individuals encountering lost pets to bring them to a veterinary clinic for complimentary scanning.
