A murder probe is underway after an elderly man was gunned down in Perthshire, Scotland, while walking his dog. Reports say the victim — 65-year-old Brian Low — died on the scene. Now, Scotland police are working round the clock to unravel the circumstances surrounding Low’s death, which they’re treating as a murder case.
Dog walker shooting has led to increased police presence, murder investigation
According to National World News, the shooting happened on Saturday, Feb. 17 at around 8:30 a.m. Low and his black Labrador were on a walk in a remote area when someone shot him. Authorities haven’t disclosed whether or not the dog sustained gunshot wounds.
In a statement, Scotland Police Detective Chief Inspector Martin Macdougall expressed his condolences to Low’s family. Moreover, he assured the public that they were doing everything possible to find Low’s killer[s].
“Our thoughts are with Brian’s family at this very difficult time and we are doing all we can to get them answers. We have been carrying out extensive inquiries since Brian’s death and detectives are working alongside uniformed officers to establish the full circumstance,” Macdougall shared.
He added: “Our inquiries have so far have revealed that Brian was out walking his black Labrador along a remote track shortly before 8:30 a.m. when he was fatally shot. Although this is a remote location, we would be keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.”
Expectedly, Low’s shooting has triggered fear among Perthshire residents. For this reason, there’s been heavy police presence in the area since the tragic incident.
John Swinney, Perthshire North Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP), sympathized with the area residents. Additionally, he assured them of maximum protection, as reported by Planet Radio.
“This is a devastating and serious announcement and I express my sympathy to the family of Brian Low,” Swinney said. He further stated: “I have spoken with Police Scotland and sought reassurance that an appropriate police presence will be in place to ensure community safety.”
