A dog was killed after a fire broke out inside a recreational vehicle (RV) in Mountain View, San Diego, early Wednesday morning. The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
Dog killed in RV fire, people narrowly escaped
On Feb. 14 at about 1 a.m., firefighters from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to reports of a burning RV parked on the street. San Diego Police officers patrolling the neighborhood at that time were the first to notify fire crews concerning the blaze, as reported by ABC 10News San Diego.
Before firefighters arrived, the officers had already started evacuating people living near the burning RV. They feared the flames might spread to these homes. Reports say there were several people and dogs in the RV when the fire broke out. The occupants managed to escape from the truck and informed officers of the dogs trapped inside.
After extinguishing the massive blaze, the fire crew discovered one dead dog inside the truck.
As of now, authorities haven’t confirmed the number of dogs and people who were in the RV. Additionally, it’s unclear what breed the deceased dog was and whether there were any more fatalities.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), there are almost 2,000 RV fires recorded every year. Also, most RV fires start in the engine area, the kitchen, and the wheel area.
