Dog Saved From Coyote Attack by Cat

A dog in Oklahoma was recently saved by a cat from two attacking coyotes, reports KTLA News. 6-year-old Oakley, a Havanese, was let outside to use the bathroom when a coyote pounced on her. That’s when another coyote arrived, but the family’s cat, Binx, appeared just in time to rescue the canine. The pup sustained injuries but managed to survive the attack.

The entire incident was captured on surveillance video. It shows the dog walking in her backyard when a coyote suddenly pounces on her and starts dragging her around. The cat then quickly jumps in, giving Oakley enough time to escape, following which the feline scares the wild animals off. “It was the craziest thing ever,” owner Lane Dyer said. “[The coyotes] cut her open and she was gushing blood, you know, from her chest and her side,” he added.

Following the attack, the family rushed the pup to their local vet. Oakley needed a few stitches and had her leg splinted. Although veterinarians initially feared the pup might lose her leg, her wounds eventually healed.

Dyer described Binx as “a tough cat” and said he’s “kind of inspired” by the feline’s heroics, according to Newsweek. “It was inspiring to see our little outdoor cat just jump at two coyotes that were attacking this little dog who she loves and chase them off.” He also added that despite being polar opposites in nature, Binx and Oakley get along quite well and share a loving bond.

The family found Binx when she was “about two months old.” The cat loves being outdoors and spends most of her time roaming around the family’s backyard.

Dyer shared that Binx was raised along with two large breed dogs, who “would put her in their mouth and just drag her around,” due to which “she’s never been intimidated or afraid of any animal.” He added, “She just owns her domain.”
