Missing Dog Rescued From Hiking Trail in Utah

A dog in Bountiful, Utah, was rescued by a hiker after getting stranded on the Elephant Rock Trail, reports The Sacramento Bee. Emma Hicks found the pup, Jane, in freezing temperatures, with the canine’s paws bleeding. The two eventually managed to make it off of the trail.

Hiker found skinny dog with no owner in the mountains

Although Hicks initially thought the dog was running off-leash, she quickly realized the skinny German Wirehaired Pointer was lost and had to be rescued. “I was like, ‘Oh, just another off-leash dog,'” she told Fox affiliate KSTU News. “I didn’t think anything of it, but it kept getting closer and closer and there was no owner anywhere.”

Subsequently, Hicks made a leash using her fanny pack, following which the two set off on their journey. Although the pup walked for a while, she frequently stopped on her way. Hicks then realized the dog must be extremely fatigued and decided to carry her. “We did probably the last mile down on my shoulders,” she said. “You could tell she was just so exhausted.”

Hicks later phoned her family for help. Her sister soon managed to find the dog’s owner, thanks to a social media post. After a while, Hicks got a call from the owner. “I was like, ‘Hi, this is Emma.’ He was like, ‘I can’t believe you found my dog,'” she shared.

According to The Sacramento Bee, the owner had been looking for his pet for 12 days after the canine abruptly went missing. He’d posted about the incident in a local Facebook group but to no avail. To make things worse, the area is replete with mountain lions and coyotes, who are known to attack dogs. As days went by, he started fearing the worst.

The pup was overjoyed to reunite with her owner after almost two weeks. Hicks described Jane as “the nicest dog” she’d ever met. “She had been fighting to stay alive and get back to her family.”
