Mission possible: Dogs saved in China

In China, more than 1,100 dogs were saved from a slaughterhouse in Chongqing on Monday. A 40-year old volunteer at the Chongqing Small Animal Protection Association (CSAPA) rescued the dogs from the back of a flatbed vehicle on Monday. Some of the animals were found dead in their cramped cages; the survivors later received medical treatment, food, and water after they were taken to an abandoned pig farm. The dogs are being cared for by donations and volunteers, and there is enough food to last for approximately 25 weeks.

China, which has no animal cruelty laws, has seen a recent surge in such dog rescues. In one recent incident, a truck driver was paid more than $17,000 to release his cargo of 580 caged dogs.
