Dodger Stadium Holds First-Ever Pet Adoption Event

A baseball game was not why fans rushed the Dodger Stadium on July 30. Rather, they were here to experience a different kind of “play ball” and adopt a very special “Dodger Dog.” Sixty-two of 100 dogs in attendance were adopted, making this event the highest adoption rate of any Los Angeles Animal Services mobile adoption event ever, organizers told Fox11.

Dodger Dogs Get Forever Homes

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Lucy Pet Foods and all six L.A. City Animal Services Shelters worked together to make this first-ever adoption event possible. And it won’t be the last at Dodger Stadium.

Squeaky toys will replace baseballs at a second Pups in the Park event slated for September 5. Not only can fans bring their furry friends to the game, but they can also parade their pup around the field’s warning track. Check out special ticket information for that game sooner than later, as it will likely be popular with both humans and canines.

“I think it’s something that everyone should have to experience, in terms of giving someone a new life and a chance at happiness and a forever home, so we’re excited,” Alexis Ghattas, who adopted a dog, told NBC Los Angeles.

“So glad the Dodgers opened the door for this… it’s been a great day, huh?” said former MLB baseball player Orel Hershiser. All of the dogs up for adoption were spayed or neutered, vaccinated, licensed, and microchipped. Of course, each dog also went home with pet food.
