When a dog gets lost, it may be weeks, months, or even years until they’re seen again. Some pups manage to travel thousands of miles before they are found and reunited with their families. But one lost dog from El Paso, Texas, managed to make her way back to the animal shelter from which she had recently been adopted. The clever canine even rang the doorbell of the rescue!

Lost Dog Reappears at Shelter, Rings Doorbell

Last month, a Husky mix named Bailey was adopted from Animal Rescue League of El Paso in Texas. Sometime thereafter, she went missing. Her parent contacted the shelter to report the disappearance and the shelter, in turn, shared about the lost dog on social media.

“This beautiful girl — Bailey — has gotten loose in the area of Mesa and Sunland Park, on the west side. She is very friendly. If you spot her or find her, please call,” the Animal Rescue League of El Paso wrote in a Facebook post that included photos of the dog.

Word spread quickly, and people started calling to report sightings of the dog. But on Jan. 31, Bailey shocked everyone when she appeared on the shelter’s doorstep and rang the doorbell.

“Bailey is now safe. To all those who searched, spotted, called, hoped – we thank you,” an update from Animal Rescue League of El Paso on Facebook read. “As we know, dogs are incredible. Bailey made her own way back to ARL and rang our ring doorbell at 1:15 am, saying she wanted in. Staff rushed to the shelter and put Bailey in her run.”

Lost Dog Goes Home (Again)

Bailey’s reappearance was surprising, given that her new home is 10 miles away from the shelter. Loretta Hyde, the founder of Animal Rescue League of El Paso, told KFOX14 that she couldn’t believe the pup made her way back to the shelter.

“These dogs are smarter than people give them credit for. How did she know what direction to go?” Hyde said. “Strays want to go back to us. They love our shelter.”

As much as Bailey may have enjoyed her time at the shelter, she had to go back her new home. But if Bailey does happen to run away again, it’ll be pretty easy to guess where she’ll go.
