Derek Hough welcomed the rescue pup in 2020 after his wife Hayley Erbet convinced him to “adopt a puppy during quarantine.”
Hayley Erbet found Luna on an Instagram post from the Labelle Foundation. They foundation posted a photo of tiny Luna, who was found in a field with her sister. The star’s wife as instantly smitten by “most adorable photo” that she has seen in her “entire life” and wanted to adopt the pup.
However, Derek Hough was a little reluctant. He thought being pet parents to Romie and their two cats (Palo and Lily) was enough. But when he saw the picture of Luna, he agreed to meet Luna. And before they knew it, the fur baby was at home.
Luna’s presence not only changed the lives of Derek Hough and his wife, but even of their older pet pooch Romie, who “gained weight and seemed depressed” most of the time before Luna became part of the family. But things changed for good once Luna joined the brood.
Speaking about Luna, Hayley Erbet told The Spruce Pets, “I really, truly believe getting Luna brought the puppy out in Romie. It made him like four years younger.”

While speaking with Parade Pets, the actor said that he loves Luna very much and that she is their “travel dog” who goes everywhere with the family, be it different cities, hotels, or venues.
Derek Hough said, “She’s like our sort of mascot, now. She has her little all-access areas pass on her collar and she’s very, very much loved.”
