Oprah’s Dog Layla: Breed, Age, and More

Oprah has always been a major advocate of pet adoption. No wonder she has been a dog mom most of her life. However, some of her beloved pet canines died in the past few years. One of them was Oprah’s pet, Layla. Here is everything we know about her dog’s age and breed.

How old was Oprah’s dog Layla?

The age of Oprah’s dog Layla is not clear. Sadly, the pet died before 2019.

Oprah and long-term partner Stedman Graha adopted Layla during a trip to the Mojave Desert in California. However, the duo had a pact to choose one pet each. And they did. But within a few minutes, Oprah spotted another little pup and fell for her despite imperfection.

Speaking to Oprah.com, the media mogul said, “We almost passed this cutie pie over, but she grabbed a hold of my heart and wouldn’t let go. I don’t like eliminating her just because she has a little underbite. What is that, discrimination? The underbite is cute!”

So after convincing her partner, Oprah left with not two but three pups: Luke, Layla, and Gracie.

What breed is Oprah’s dog Layla?

The breed of Oprah’s dog Layla was Golden Retriever. They are one of the most loved breeds. Their lifespan is 10-12 years.

Oprah has had over 20 dogs but sadly most of them passed away. Gracie, her golden retriever, died in 2007 after choking on a ball while her cocker spaniel, Sophie, died of kidney failure at the age of 13. However, for Oprah, every pet has been a blessing in her life and she has always received love from them.

Talking about her pets, Oprah said on a Super Soul Sunday episode in 2014, “Over the years I have felt the truest, purest love—the love of God, really, I imagine that’s what God’s love feels like—is the love that comes from your dog.”
