Los Angeles-based Wags and Walks/Sol FoundationReceives 2011 DogTime Pet Blog Awards Grant
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – (December 8, 2011) – DogTime Media, the largest vertical media community focused exclusively on pet owners, today announced that Wags and Walks/Sol Foundation is the recipient of it’s $10,000 DogTime Pet Blog Awards Grant.
First announced in August as part of the of 2011 DogTime Media Pet Blog Awards, aka “the Petties”, the Grant was made available to animal shelters, rescues and pet-focused bloggers who shared DogTime’s mission of using the Internet to help find homes for the thousands of dogs and cats in shelters across the country.
Lesley Brog, the founder of Wags and Walks which is located in Los Angeles, CA, has dedicated her life to working with overcrowded and high kill shelters in the southern California area to save dogs that have been left in the hands of the shelter. Wags and Walks partners with The Sol Foundation, an organization that provides schools with humane-education curricula for kids of all ages. Founder Ashley Oelsen believes, like Brog, that front-line rescue must be accompanied by early education in order to create a new, more compassionate attitude toward animals in our society.
“As the daughter of a veterinarian, I have always had a passion for animals and their well-being,” said Brog. “I am so proud of the work DogTime is doing and am grateful for their donation – it will save many lives.”
The annual DogTime Pet Blog Awardsare considered by many to be “the Oscars of the pet blogging world.” This year the 2011 Petties recognized 32 nominees chosen by their fellow bloggers and pet lovers from across the DogTime Media community. Each of the winning bloggers was awarded a $1,000 donation to the non-profit animal shelter of their choice. A total of $20,000 was donated as part of this year’s Petties.
“It was a real honor to meet Lesley and to learn more about the great work she and Ashley are doing,” said DogTime Media President Simon Tonner. “This year’s Petties Awards has reached across the pet blogging community and all the way to the individual dogs and cats that are in desperate need of homes. The entire DogTime family is proud to support heroes like Lesley and Ashley and are looking forward to doing even more as part of next year’s DogTime Pet Blog Awards.”
DogTime Media’s editor-in-chief Leslie Smith spent an afternoon with Lesley Brog and Ashley Oelsen and published their story on DogTime.com.
