The Save a Dog and Save a Cat applications were launched in 2009 with the goal of leveraging the power of social media to increase the exposure for shelter dogs and cats with the hope of finding them new homes.
The good news is that according to the 2011-2012 APPA National Pet Owners Survey (American Pet Products Association), people are going to shelters and rescues more to find a dog or cat than going to breeders.
With our recent announcement of reaching our goal of $200,000 in donations on Save a Dog and Save a Cat, we have been thinking about how we can do even more to find homes for shelter animals.
We are very excited to announce that the apps will be moving off of Facebook and onto DogTime.com. We are putting a stronger emphasis on exposure for these animals and will be taking advantage of additional popular social media platforms such as Twitter, Pintrest and others. Facebook users will still be able to share animals via their Facebook pages using Facebook Connect. We will still be posting updates, news, contests, etc on the Save a Dog and Save a Cat Facebook pages.
There will no longer be any gaming elements or points earned, but users will have the opportunity to generate donations for a wider array of animal causes than ever before through our sponsored events and online shopping partner Karmawell.
Within the next 30 days we will be launching the new Save a Dog and Save a Cat Adoptable Animal Finder on DogTime.com and will be sharing much more information about all the exciting new features.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped to make Save a Dog and Save a Cat successful, and we hope that you will continue to support us in our mission. Stay tuned!
