Can dogs eat moringa pods? Native to the Philippines, Asia, and Africa, the moringa has recently made waves in the United States as a superfood for us humans. But are moringa pods safe for dogs to eat?

The short answer is yes, moringa pods are safe for dogs. Often referred to as a miracle food, moringa pods can be eaten raw or cooked, or their leaves can be ground into a powder.

And that’s not all — nearly all parts of the moringa tree are edible, even the bark. Though, we wouldn’t recommend it for dogs!

Moringa pods have gained a great deal of research in recent years. But, you must still run its addition to your dog’s diet by your veterinarian before introduction. In the meantime, here’s everything you should know about how moringa pods might be a miracle food for dogs.

How Are Moringa Pods Good For Dogs?

The Moringa Tree, also known as the Miracle Tree, is a drought-resistant tree. Its various attributes have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. The bark, flowers, leaves, pods, roots, and seeds are all nutritional and useful.

But can dogs benefit from this wondrous tree the way that humans do? So far, all the research points to yes.

“It’s a superfood that can beneficial for mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles,” says veterinarian Dr. Karen Becker. “As a whole food, it carries far fewer potential side effects than synthetic multivitamins.”

Dr. Becker further notes that she’s used moringa derivatives as an iron supplement for anemic animals.

Overall, moringa has been proven to aid in disease prevention, cholesterol reduction, and improved circulation. Furthermore, it provides a serious immune system boost.

Moringa contains twelve times the amount of vitamin C found in an orange. With 26 times the amount of iron found in spinach.

That’s all on top of the usual vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in vegetables safe for dogs. Moringa further includes vitamin A, numerous B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, zinc, and phosphorus.

Plus, it’s low-calorie with virtually no fat content. All in all, there doesn’t seem to be much of a downside. But, that’s also why we would advise further research.

How Can I Safely Give Moringa Pods To My Dog?

Moringa pods are safe to eat raw or cooked. As mentioned above, many parts of the Moringa Tree are edible. But, we would advise exercising caution with anything that might be a choking hazard.

However, the pods and seeds within are completely safe for dogs and humans.

As a general rule, natural is better. Moringa is concentrated in supplements, powders, extracts, and oils, all of which tout significant health benefits. Make sure to research, understand proper dosages, and consult your veterinarian before committing anything to your dog’s diet.
